50 Years Ago Fr. Eugene Sheridan, C.M., and Mrs. Clara Ford directed a summer reading, arts and crafts, and recreation program for 32 children in the Auburn area at St. Michael’s Center.
50 Years Ago Spring Hill College published a new magazine entitled “Spring Hill Today.” Mother Marguerite Marie, Superior of the Little Sisters of the Poor, left Mobile for a new assignment in Phoenix. She was succeeded as superior by Sister Margaret Mary.
50 Years Ago Reverend A. William Crandall, S.J., former provincial of all Southern Province Jesuits and President of Spring Hill College, gave the closed retreat for women at the Visitation Retreat House.
50 Years Ago The administrative team moved for the consolidation of McGill Institute and Bishop Toolen High School were: Sister Mary Alda Balthrop, RSM, principal; Wayne T. Merritt, director of curriculum; Margaret Golf, director of human development; Thomas P. Davis, director of student activities; and Sister Mary Rosina Bayliss, director of finance.

50 Years Ago The Mobile DCCW celebrated its 20th year. Mrs. J. Harold Alexander and Mrs. Harold Dawson co-chaired the Allen Memorial Auxiliary Benefit Bridge Luncheon. The St. Jude Pirates became the 2A state basketball champions, defeating the West Morgan Rebels 64-45.
