I have been asked what is my reaction to the controversy over the recent vote of the US bishops to draft a document on the Eucharist. My first reaction is that a long deep breath would be helpful.
My name is Tex Phelps and I am the new Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. In my position one of my favorite parts of the job is visiting different parish communities and the beautiful churches across the diocese. In my previous positions in Beaumont, Savannah, Maryland and Washington DC, I have been very blessed to visit many parishes and be a part of parish celebrations of the Liturgy and other special occasions. It is always an honor and a privilege to worship alongside different communities with the same faith. It brings us together as ONE.

Beginning in grade school, we all were taught the 10 Commandments. These are God’s laws, given to Moses to be obeyed by God’s people. The commandments direct us not to lie, not to steal, not to commit adultery, not to kill, etc. We know God was serious about all the ones I just mentioned, but somehow we have the idea that God is not as serious about the commandment to keep holy the Sabbath. However, the Bible makes it clear that God is as serious about the commandment to keep holy the Sabbath as He is about the commandment not to kill. God commands that we keep the seventh day as the day that we gather and worship Him.

Thankfully, we can finally travel and visit relatives! It feels almost like the good ole pre-COVID days. We can venture out of our bubble and take a vacation or travel to visit family and friends. Traveling to new places is a fun adventure and presents a great opportunity for us as Christian disciples striving to be good stewards.
