There are those who accuse people of faith of being anti-scientific. Such people try to argue that people of science cannot be people of faith, as if the two are opposing forces. The opposite is true. People of faith delve into science knowing that the cosmos was created by an intelligent and rational God and, therefore, the cosmos must be capable of being known by intelligence since it must be rational. For Christians, the cosmos does not contain mysteries but only questions which have not yet been answered.
VATICAN CITY — A synod calls on everyone to become experts in "the art of encounter" in a way that is uplifting and transformative, Pope Francis said, formally opening the process leading up to the assembly of the Synod of Bishops in 2023.
Beginning Nov. 28, Words of Remembrance often delivered by loved ones of the deceased will now be given before, and not during, funeral Masses in the Archdiocese of Mobile.
I recently watched a compelling video prepared by a group called “Heartbeat International.” They provide women, who regret having taken an abortion pill, the chance to reverse their decision through a treatment involving progesterone. The protocol, though not yet officially “peer-reviewed,” appears to work well if the woman doesn’t wait too long, and the video includes pictures and rescue dates of many beautiful babies who have been saved this way.
In 2017, Lauren and Dan Johnson of Daphne eagerly rushed to the hospital, as they had four times before, to welcome a new child into their family. Eighteen hours later, after a difficult labor and delivery, their precious son Isaac was born.
MOBILE — All are invited to attend the fall faith formation lecture given by Dr. John F. Crosby at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 in the "old church" at St. Ignatius Parish, Mobile. Dr. Crosby will speak on “A Great Christian Witness: How Dietrich von Hildebrand Raised his Voice Against Hitler.”
We are a family of faith. In every family, each member has different roles and responsibilities. A family is there for support in good times and bad. That is no different in our family of faith.
We are in the midst of Respect Life month. This call to respect all human life is really all-encompassing. Respect life means that we recognize that each human person has value and dignity. Humans have this dignity precisely because of how we were made, and by whom. Every issue matters, and we should have respect for human life at the core of the way we approach any and every issue.

RCIA leaders at parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Mobile accept an immense responsibility as they assist non-Catholics on a faith journey and into possible full Communion with the Catholic Church.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an organization of lay Catholics, following Christ’s call to serve the poor. Members make home visits to establish personal relationships with our neighbors in need, not only providing material assistance such as rent, utilities, food or clothing, but also offering friendship, understanding, and prayer. There are 22 active conferences within the Archdiocese of Mobile.
Every year since 1980, young adults from dioceses in Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina meet under the sponsorship of the Southeastern Pastoral Institute to write the Book of Pascua, which means “Easter” in Spanish.
Pope Francis’ environmental encyclical, Laudato Si, has generated a great buzz. I have to admit that I haven’t always taken enough interest in ecological issues, assuming that doing so would somehow compromise my dedication to the frail seniors with whom we share our lives as Little Sisters of the Poor.
The other morning I was praying before Mass and I had some thoughts that I would like to share. I was offering all of myself to the Lord. Specifically that morning I was offering him all of my failures, my shortcomings and imperfections. I have heard great saints talk about how their shortcomings is all they have that is truly theirs. Anyway, then I started to feel that maybe I shouldn’t be offering such “trash” to the Lord. Then this hit me.
