Parishes and ministries in the Archdiocese of Mobile are continuing to assess damage from Category 2 Hurricane Sally that struck the Gulf Coast early Sept. 16.
Brenda Withers Hicks, who serves as administrator of the Father Purcell Memorial Exceptional Children’s Center in Montgomery, is being recognized for her ministry. The children’s center is a skilled pediatric nursing home for 58 developmentally disabled children in Montgomery and Brenda has been named one of eight finalists for the Catholic Extension’s Lumen Christi Award.
I hope and pray that everyone is doing reasonably well after our little dance with Sally. What a year, huh? COVID-19, great civil unrest, worry about the economic impact from those, and now Sally. I know many of us are feeling like this string of events is straight out of the Book of Revelation.

Hurricane Laura tore through many buildings in Louisiana and Texas, including the Lake Charles, La., home of Margaret and Jerry Savoie. They are the parents of Fr. Johnny Savoie, pastor of St. Pius X Parish in Mobile.
