Cheerleaders from Montgomery Catholic High receiving awards from Huntington College Clinic were: Sandra Pierann, Gail Kennedy, Laura Hitcon, Donna Pertcra, Mickey Edington, Margaret Lummer, Bonnie Vollenvieder and Marilyn Walker.
The Mobile Theater Guild presented their production of “Cabaret.”
Mr. Robert Martin was elected Building Fund Treasurer at St. Agatha Parish in Bay Minette.
Sister Carolyn Mane, M.S.B.T., returned to the Motherhouse in Philadelphia after 18 years in the Mobile diocese.
The newly combined McGill-Toolen High School won its first game defeating Toulminville 29-8. The Stringer Award went to Mike Crenshaw, the Back Award to Mike Capps and the Best Lineman Award to Charlie Smoke.
St. Jude High trounced the Ramer Eagles 33-0. Offensive starts were Brian Ford, Winfred Robinson, Carlton Ross, Antonia Womack and James Dawson.
Fr. Clement Weiss, C.R., was appointed pastor of Resurrection Parish.
Bishop John L. May opened the 1973-1974 School year celebrating the Mass of the Holy Spirit at McGill-Toolen’s newly combined school.

Fr. Stephen E. Martin was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Joseph Lawson Howze at St. Peter Catholic Church in Montgomery. Fr. Martin said his first Mass at his home parish, Our Lady Queen of Mercy. His first assignment was at St. Bede Parish, Montgomery, as associate pastor.
Tom and Caroline McDonald were named the new Family Life Couple for the Archdiocese of Mobile.
Rev. Msgr. James W. Oberkirch, rector of the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, announced the appointment of Charles Olegar as director of music for the Cathedral.
Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb made the following clergy appointments: Fr. Francis V. Cusack, appointed pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish; Fr. James E. Dane was appointed pastor of Holy Family Parish; Fr. James N. Dean was appointed administrator of St. Martin Parish, Troy; Fr. Ernest R. Hyndmann was appointed pastor of St. Agatha and St. Robert; and Fr. Patrick Maher was appointed Pastor of St. Thomas-by-the-Sea.
Andie Bender was named chairman of the Visitation Monastery Treasures and Auction Sale.
Mobile’s Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception was the site of an organ concert. Organist of the Vatican, in Italy, Dr. James Goellsche was the principal organist.
A farewell reception was held for Sister Beth Butler, M.S.B.T., who was leaving the Archdiocese of Mobile to begin her position within her community as assistant general custodian of the Blessed Trinity Cenacle in Philadelphia.
Spring Hill College President Gregory F. Lucey, S.J., announced the appointments of Dr. Noreen Carrocci as the vice president of academic affairs and Dr. Stephen E. Roth as the dean of students.
The Rev. Donald J. Hawkins. S.J., joined Spring Hill College as director of campus ministry and rector of the Jesuit community. Joining Fr. Hawkins in campus ministry was Maureen Bergan.
McGill-Toolen High School Girls Golf Team finished seventh in the 1998 National High School Golf Championships. Leigh Buhring was selected to the High School All-American Women’s Team.
