Joseph Langan was named head of the Mobile Catholic Charity Drive. Theme of the campaign was “All That’s Needed ...Your Help.”
Bishop Toolen Red Cross volunteers Kathy Rollins, Theresa Maurin, Holly Matthews, Kim Thompson, Melanie Betbeze, Mary England, Mary Ann Jingo, Dottie Miller, Margarite Guy and Pat McCarty escorted children with disabilities to the Senior Bowl Game.
Installed as officers of the Montgomery Deanery DCCW were: Mrs. Kitty Reickenbach, president; Mrs. Ed Kirsch, first vice president; Mrs. John Poole, third vice president; Mrs. Glenn M. Robertson, recording secretary; Mrs. John W. Martin, Sr., corresponding secretary; and Mrs. John H. Jones, treasurer.”
Fr. Allen S. Foley, S.J., went to Rome to teach top officials of his order the latest development in the field of management.
The minimum Catholic Charities pledge of all wage earners was $5 per month.

Paulette Lopapa was named the Catholic High winner of the Betty Crocker Future Homemaker Award.
Steve Demeranville and Mike Sullivan represented McGill Institute on the Mobile City Council.

Four young Catholic school and college educated students that worked in Montgomery’s Catholic Schools as part of the Alliance for Catholic Education were Phillip Autry, Erin Hayden, Scott Morgan and Michelle Nasser.
The January 1996 issue of “Student Sports” magazine ranked the McGill-Toolen Dirty Dozen 24th in the nation and named Holly Miller to the All-American Volleyball Team for sophomores. The magazine featured an article about Coach Becky Dickinson as the nation's winningest girls' volleyball coach. Players Kristi Black, Danner Littles, Lindsay Stuardi, Lisa Spencer, Holly Miller and Beth Olen captured six of the 12 slots on the Super 12 Volleyball Team named by the Mobile Press Register.
Fr. Francis Butler, SSJ, pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish was guest speaker at the meeting of the Montgomery Serra Club held at St. Bede Parish. Fr. Patrick Maher served as the club’s chaplain.
McGill-Toolen’s Shawn Griffin was named cross country Runner of the Year by the “Mobile Press Register.”
Fr. Manual Williams, C.R., director of Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South was the guest speaker at the 10th annual Memorial Service for the Unborn held on Sanctity of Life Sunday in Montgomery.
Closing out the football season, St. Ignatius seniors went undefeated in regular season and went on to defeat the CYO All-Stars in the Toy Bowl. Team members were Matt Dearman, Tripp Meador, Bernard Scott, Philip Greer, Curt Wooten, Scott Sanders, Craig Burnett, Ryan Taylor, Hardy Demeranville, Michael Thomas, Peter McLemore, Steven Zito, Bryant Baggett, Hunter Cain, Chris Guesnard, Chris Rux, Brannon Barter and Zack Miller. Coaches were Judson Sanders, Hardy Demeranville, Bernie Scott and Dan Brennan.
