CYO fall sports season cancelled

MOBILE – The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted another ministry as the 2020 Catholic Youth Organization’s fall sports season has been cancelled, CYO director David Weems announced Aug. 6.
Youths from kindergarten through eighth grade at Catholic schools in Baldwin and Mobile counties play in CYO sports. The fall includes football, soccer, volleyball and cheerleading.
In his announcement, Weems said “This decision was made after much careful thought, prayer and discussion. Our focus is on the health and safety of our children as they return to the classroom (Aug. 12).”
The 73rd Toy Bowl was also scheduled for October and is the chief fundraiser for CYO. According to Weems, “A modified Toy Bowl is being discussed and we will have more information soon in regard to this annual eighth-grade tradition.”
