Queridos padres, Espero que estén bien y que hayan disfrutado de un poco de tiempo de ocio con sus hijos y su cónyuge.  Nuestras vidas están llenas de obligaciones y tensiones.  Sé que requiere un esfuerzo hercúleo criar a sus hijos.  Gracias por hacerlo.  Quiero elogiar especialmente a aquellos que están haciendo solos este trabajo de dos personas.  Vaya.  No sé cómo lo hacen.

Dear parents, I hope you are doing well and I hope that you enjoyed a bit of recreational time with your children and your spouse.  Our lives are so filled with obligations and stresses.  I know it requires a Herculean effort to raise your children.  Thank you for doing it.  I especially want to commend those of you are doing this two-person job all by yourself.  Wow.  I don’t know how you do it.

Me gustaría reflexionar sobre el papel de las normas en nuestra vida. Todos vemos y casi siempre obedecemos las señales de la calle que nos comunican las reglas. Todos nos hemos desplazado hasta el final de una página para aceptar las condiciones (o reglas).

I would like to reflect on the role of rules in our lives. We all see and mostly obey street signs which are communicating rules to us. We have all scrolled down to the bottom of a page to agree to terms (or rules).

Los seres humanos podemos expresar cosas con nuestras palabras que son realmente deslumbradoras. Luego repetimos la frase con la suficiente frecuencia como para que la expresión empiece a perder su impacto. Por ejemplo, piense en la primera vez que le dijo a alguien "te quiero". ¿Recuerda los nervios? ¿Recuerda la boca seca y el corazón palpitante? Ahora, lo decimos por rutina. We humans can express things with our words that are really mind-blowing. Then we repeat the phrase frequently enough that the expression begins to lose its impact. For example, think about the first time you told someone, “I love you.” Do you remember the nerves? Do you remember the dry mouth and heart pounding? Now, we say it as a matter of routine. Sometimes we say, “I love you,” and then have to follow that up with some sort of emphasis. Our use of the phrase has demystified it.

Estoy terminando una peregrinación. He tenido la suerte de encontrarme con los restos de muchos santos, y al mismo tiempo con la vida de ellos. Creo que hay un peligro en esto. Es muy fácil deshumanizar a los santos. Nos atraen las historias de muertes heroicas, o de milagros realizados. Los peregrinos acuden a los santos con grandes historias, y yo no soy diferente.

I am finishing a pilgrimage. I have been blessed to encounter the remains of many saints, and in doing so encountering their lives. I think there is a danger here. It is so easy to dehumanize the saints. We are enamored with stories of heroic deaths, or of miracles worked. Pilgrims flock to the saints with great stories, and I am no different.

I am writing this from Assisi, Italy. I am not sure there is any place that exudes holiness and peace more than Assisi. I am on a pilgrimage, so I thought I would reflect on the idea of pilgrimage.

This is the time of year that many people are celebrating wedding anniversaries.  But, it is also a time when many of our priests are celebrating their priesthood ordination. Find out when your pastor and/or parochial vicar was ordained and make sure to find a way to celebrate his priesthood and thank him for his service.

It is almost summer! Every kid’s dream, and a challenge for many parents. I stand in awe at how hard our kids work. They get up early in the morning and have to get dressed, eat breakfast and get out the door. All of this happens pretty early. Then, they spend the entire day at school and many of them also stay in some sort of afterschool care.

Mother's Day is just around the corner. There are a lot of opportunities for us to spend money, but I think that most moms really want their children close by and they want to spend time with them.

Continúo con una reflexión sobre las cosas que podemos aprender al observar los relatos de la creación del libro del Génesis. Como recordarán, lo estamos haciendo en respuesta a una pregunta de los fariseos, Jesús le dice repetidamente a su audiencia que se remonte al principio si realmente quiere entender lo que está enseñando.

We are continuing our reflection on things we can learn from the Book of Genesis.  Additionally, this is Easter time, so we are going to tie that in too. It is very interesting to reflect on the encounter in Genesis 2 between the First Man and the First Woman, later known as Adam and Eve.

I am continuing a reflection on things that we can learn from looking at the creation stories from the Book of Genesis. You may recall that we are doing this in response to a question from the Pharisees, Jesus repeatedly tells His audience to go back the beginning if we really want to understand what He is teaching.
