MONTGOMERY — The Knights of Columbus Assembly 003, in Montgomery, sponsored a Eucharistic Revitalization program during the Lenten season this year. 

On April 11, 1963, John XXIII issued the encyclical Pacem in Terris, a powerful call for a world in which there were neither victims nor executioners that cemented the pontiff’s reputation as “Good Pope John.”  With the world having teetered on the brink of nuclear war during the October 1962 Cuban missile crisis, a papal appeal for “peace on earth” was well-received everywhere, including the Soviet Union — although the view in some Vatican quarters that the masters of the Kremlin took the encyclical’s message to heart was rather naive.

As a convert to Catholicism, Holy Week holds a special place in my faith journey. I went through RCIA and Holy Week was my final preparation to be Confirmed in the Catholic Church. I participated in each day of the Triduum with joy and excitement! This was my first time to encounter Holy Week and I wanted to fully embrace every part of the week.

Happy Easter! Yes, we celebrate eight days of Easter as if each day was Easter itself. Then we continue to celebrate the Easter Season for a total of 50 days.

Hace algunos años fui invitado a casa de una familia muy agradable. Vivían en algún lugar fuera de la Archidiócesis de Mobile, por lo que no los conocía. Su casa era preciosa. Some years ago I was invited to a home of a very nice family. They lived somewhere outside of the Archdiocese of Mobile, so you do not know them. Their home was beautiful. It was decorated in a rustic American style. The lady of the house took pride in how she had decorated her home and it was obvious that she had a talent for decorating a home.

St. Patrick Catholic School ministers to students in Central Baldwin County from preschool to eighth grade and Campbell will begin his position for the 2023-24 school year

How do we determine that someone has died? The Uniform Determination of Death Act (UDDA), which has been an important part of the medical and legal landscape in the U.S. for more than 40 years, states:  "An individual who has sustained either irreversible cessation of circulatory and respiratory functions or irreversible cessation of all functions of the entire brain, including the brainstem, is dead. A determination of death must be made in accordance with accepted medical standards."

If we are doing our best to listen attentively at Mass, there is typically a word or phrase that speaks to us in every homily. Recently, one of the phrases that has spoken to me is that we should live every day with an “attitude of gratitude.”
