At the beginning of February, the Church in the U.S. celebrates Catholic Schools Week. I would like to take this opportunity to sing the praises of Catholic schools and to invite everyone—Catholic and non-Catholic alike—to support them. I attended Church-affiliated educational institutions from first grade through graduate school, from Holy Name Elementary School in Birmingham, Mich., to the Institut Catholique in Paris. That years-long immersion massively shaped my character, my sense of values, my entire way of looking at the world. I am convinced that, especially now, when a secularist, materialist philosophy largely holds sway in our culture, the Catholic ethos needs to be inculcated. 

Families are under a great amount of pressure today. We could compile a long list of reasons for this pressure but the fact is that our families face challenges of many types. As people of faith we have a special role of seeking to strengthen and support our families.

MOBILE — Archbishop Thomas J. Rodi is pleased to announce that Chad Barwick has been selected as the next Superintendent/Director of Catholic Education for Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Mobile. 

ROBERTSDALE — Sonia Karina Cruz Castañeda walked the aisle and received a ring like any bride would. But not many become brides of Christ.

PRATTVILLE — The Knights of Columbus Council and Assembly at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Prattville assisted in multiple tornado recovery efforts and also with helping those with special needs.

Stewardship withstands the test of time. Jesus called us to be His disciples and the path to being a disciple is through living a life of stewardship. Jesus tells us exactly how to achieve this in St. John’s Gospel when He says, “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 14: 34-35).  

I am pondering God’s creation and God’s relationship to it.  In the Book of Genesis God says, “It is not good for the man to be alone.”  From the beginning of human existence, the point has been made repeatedly that we are not created to be separated and alone.
