If we genuinely trust scripture, our own experience and our own sanity, we can only conclude that God has a sense of humor, and a robust and sneaky one at that. Where’s the evidence?

A little over a year ago, I began my transition to my new position in the Archdiocese of Mobile. My start date was set and I planned my drive from the Washington, DC, area to Mobile. As I was preparing for my trip, I was busy packing and preparing and had little time to pay attention to the news. I decided to start my trip after work on my last day in the office and drive outside of the DC/Virginia area to avoid morning traffic. I picked out Rocky Mount, N.C., to spend the night. It seemed like the perfect spot to break up my travel. I was excited as a set out on my journey.

The theme of that retreat was bees; everything revolved around bees and a statement from Fr. Thomas Judge, the founder of the Trinitarian order, which was modified to fit the theme: “Bee good! Do good! And bee a power for good!”

"My heart is broken.” With these words Pope Francis reacted to the slaughter of 19 little children and two teachers at a school in Uvalde, Texas. The images on television and social media were heart wrenching. We witnessed parents, grandparents and other loved ones overcome with grief as they gathered at the school, their children suddenly and senselessly snatched out of their lives by a violence as incomprehensible as it was barbarous. The cruelty of what these families have to endure is beyond description.

Summer time is here! Time for vacations, travel and new adventures! Yes, summer is a time when many of us take a break from our everyday lives and go on a vacation to relax or travel to visit family and friends. Traveling to new places is always an adventure and presents a great opportunity for us as Christian disciples striving to be good stewards. The Gospels are full of stories of Jesus traveling with His disciples and teaching in different towns and cities.
