The other day I was driving down Savannah Street in Mobile. Wonderful memories came back to me. When I was a small child, my uncle lived in on Savannah Street. He worked for the United Fruit Company when it had a substantial presence in Mobile which served as the port through which loads of Central American bananas arrived.

TROY — Parishioners and well-wishers at St. Martin of Tours Parish in Troy recently commemorated the first year of the Pilgrim Virgin apostolate at their parish. The statue of Our Lady of Fatima was displayed on the altar during Mass on October 16, and then brought into the parish hall afterward where photos could be taken of the statue, and questions could be answered about this international ministry.

By Anne Baggett MOBILE—The 74th Annual Toy Bowl Classic campaign, games and festivities proved to be a banner year for the young participants and adult volunteers. Leading the way in the fund-raising activities that garnered over $90,000 for the support of CYO activities were Toy Bowl Queen Caroline Elizabeth Howell and King Elliot Brooks Adams of St. Dominic School; First Lady to the Queen Teresa Madeleine King of St. Ignatius School; Second Lady to the Queen Louise Harmon Largue and Knight Xavier Francis Montague of St. Mary School; and Lady Lilly Anne-Marie Heller and Knight Brady Sebastian Sparks of Corpus Christi School and the 154 eighth-grade members of the Toy Bowl Court.

A este Encuentro asistieron representantes de 19 de las 30 diócesis que componen la la región sureste de los Estados Unidos, así como el Arzobispo de la Arquidiócesis de Miami, Thomas Wenski, el Obispo Joseph Kopacz, de la Diócesis de Jackson, el Obispo Erik Pohlmeir de la Diócesis de San Agustín y el Arzobispo Thomas Rodi de la Arquidiócesis de Mobile quien ofreció la charla de apertura del Encuentro.

As we lay in the giant field on the final night of World Youth Day in Poland, the constant drumming and cheering could be heard continuously. A priest with our group had to get up at 4 o’clock in the morning in order to make his way to the main stage to be a part of the final Mass celebrated by Pope Francis. The sun came up very early and everybody started to wake up. It is difficult to really gauge the size of a crowd in the dark. When the sun lit up the field, I could get a better picture of the magnitude of the moment. I would later learn that there were around 2.5 million people at the closing Mass for World Youth Day 2016. The sight of all of the people was incredible!
